What is National 911 Education Month?

In 2008, U.S. Congress designated the month of April as National 911 Education Month as an effort to educate the public about the optimal use of 9-1-1 services. Public safety industry organizations such as NENA have compiled resources to educate our communities on how to ensure an effective and efficient emergency response, no matter which side of the phone you are on.

What is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week?

Every year during the second week of April and during National 911 Education Month, we honor the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community. This week-long event is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public by dispatching help to 9-1-1 callers in need.

This year, the RapidSOS team wanted to express our gratitude to telecommunicators across the country and around the world through a series of thank you messages. Check out our videos below to hear from team members across the entire organization.

We also invited two special guests from Colorado and Nebraska to share their stories during the NPSTW edition of our Media Partner Spotlight with Within the Trenches Media. Telecommunicators Mel Hanover from Aurora, CO and Patrick McNeil from North Platte, NE joined Ricardo Martinez and RapidSOS’s Karin Marquez to talk everything from their most memorable 9-1-1 calls to the highlights of their public safety journeys. Tune in below!

To honor the incredible work that telecommunicators from RapidSOS Ready Emergency Communications Centers do every day, we also highlighted a few #ShareYourSave stories that were submitted by you. Below are some stories from Henderson County 911 in Tennessee, Layton City Police Departement in Utah, Columbia County EOC in Florida, and Van Alstyne Police Department in Texas. A major kudos and thank you to all the telecommunicators for being flexible and leveraging next-generation technologies to better serve their communities during emergencies.

Although there are days dedicated to honoring telecommunicators around the world, we recognize your impact, sacrifice, and heroism every single day. Your trust and support allow RapidSOS to continue driving forward our mission to better support you and your life-saving work.

Thank you for being the voice that keeps us calm when we are most in need. Thank you for being the lifeline of the emergency response ecosystem. Thank you, 911!
