This is operator 13 with [insert your favorite alarm company] calling to report an intrusion alarm, zone 3. C’mon 9-1-1: we know you have your “favorite” alarm company. You likely have their call back numbers memorized and when you see one come in, you think “sigh, another alarm call.”

This sentiment is all too familiar to many public safety professionals, who daily answer calls from monitoring centers. As monitoring agents relay the information they see on their screen, dispatchers listen, enter the data into their own screen, and ask a series of standard questions.

But admit it: you’ve wondered if you’re getting all the information you need, right?

Why ECCs need an alarm response solution

According to Safewise’s State of Safety 2023, 38% of Americans named Property Crime or Violent Crime as the primary issue keeping them awake at night. Americans crave a sense of safety and security, whether at home, work, or on the go.

For these reasons, more and more people are purchasing residential and commercial security systems, smart home monitoring systems, personal panic solutions, and, perhaps most critically, school safety applications.

Given 911’s staffing challenges, it’s time to reevaluate how ECCs process alarm requests and consider how technology can help to automate emergency response workflows.

Introducing RapidSOS Digital Alerts

RapidSOS has been working with public safety to identify pain points in the alarm response process, and we are now excited to introduce RapidSOS Digital Alerts.

RapidSOS Digital Alerts enable ECCs to receive a request for dispatch directly from an alarm company, removing the step of receiving a phone call from a monitoring center. Both RapidSOS Portal and RapidSOS Premium can be enabled with Digital Alerts.

How RapidSOS Digital Alerts improve emergency response

When your agency goes live and an alert is initiated and verified, your telecommunicator can accept the Digital Alert. They will be able to see details of the alarm including zone information (as long as that is entered by the installer or homeowner).

The alarm can also be closed or dispositioned electronically through a two way chat, eliminating the need for another phone call. Additionally, there is a built-in safety net if the alert is not acknowledged in a timely manner, after which a 10-digit phone call will come in to ensure the alarm is received by your ECC.

How to streamline workflows with RapidSOS Digital Alerts API

Going one step further, if RapidSOS can automate the alert to RapidSOS Portal, can it also create a call in CAD? The answer is yes! With RapidSOS Alerts API, RapidSOS will take the alert and create a call for service.

This solution, now available to your development team or CAD provider, can vastly improve call processing times, increase workflow efficiencies, and provide dispatchers with more contextual data. All of this can also mean a faster, more informed response and lives or property saved.
