Q: What is your role, and how long have you been working at RapidSOS?
A: I am the Senior People Operations Manager, and I have been at RapidSOS for one year and seven months now.
Q: What brought you to RapidSOS?
A: Definitely RapidSOS’s mission and the opportunity to help build out the People function.
Q: What motivates you to do the work that you’re doing here?
A: The team is really great, and we have an amazing People team I get to work with. I also have the added privilege of the mission that drives me everyday on several levels. First, I’m supporting employees who are building out this amazing platform that saves lives. Second, I know I have an unconventional background (use to work in child abuse cases and also a EA in a previous life. I am also the child of two phenomenal immigrant parents). I know I bring something different to the team in that sense. My hope is that my ideas and perspectives can eventually trickle down to the technology and products RapidSOS is bringing to the world. I want to help make sure our technology is inclusive and equitable, especially as our technology often deals with vulnerable populations. Finally, what I get to work on is really interesting, no day is ever the same which keeps things fresh.
Q: What is your favorite part about working at RapidSOS and on the People Operations team?
A: My favorite part of working at RapidSOS as a whole is knowing that what I do impacts lives saved in some capacity. My favorite part of working on the People Ops team is the amazing people I get to work with all while working on some really cool projects. We are pushing out initiatives that I could have never imagined were possible, supporting employees as best as we can, and getting creative to make things happen.
A prime example is our recent “quiet week” where teams canceled internal meetings and logged off to relax and recharge. We used data we had collected and created this initiative to mitigate potential burnout and show appreciation for all of our hardworking team members across the globe.
Q: How has RapidSOS helped you reach your goals?
A: RapidSOS has helped me hit my goals too many times to count. My one big goal in life is to make sure people feel like they can bring their authentic selves to work and always feel psychologically safe when attending the workplace. I’ve been in previous environments where that wasn’t the case, and I want to make sure this is always the case at RapidSOS. So in many ways RapidSOS has given me the breadth to action on this goal in many different facets. One being benefits, which our current benefits cover IVF, sex reassignment surgery, mental health, and hormone therapy.
Q: What are you most looking forward to in the coming months at RapidSOS?
A: I’m looking forward to continuing to build out an inclusive environment here, as well as some of our new initiatives that are being planned. For instance, we are trying to use more data and metrics to help ensure we are progressing towards our goals to make RapidSOS a first in class organization.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I like to stay busy and can never stay still! I love the band BTS and music in general. I really like participating in physical activity, including acrobatics. I like outdoorsy hiking, biking, and travel. On the rare occasion that I am being a couch potato, anime and manga have my heart!
