Newtown, Brussels, Paris, San Bernardino, Orlando, and now Istanbul — hate and terror that tries to divide us, to push away from a society of freedom and acceptance to one of walls and fear. The thoughts of our entire team go out to those impacted by the Istanbul airport attack.
Amid a seemingly endless barrage of tragedy, amid the sadness and loss, I cannot help but feel hope. Yes, a few men or women may try to divide us in a terrible act of crime and hate, but it only brings us together. As I see social media posts with French, Belgian, and rainbow flags, worldwide candlelight vigils and prayer sessions, I feel inspired not afraid.
We are stronger than the hate, stronger than the fear, stronger than the efforts of any terrorist to divide us.
One of the privileges of building an advanced emergency tech start-up, is seeing the best, the strongest, the most passionate aspects of humanity. From working with 9-1-1 dispatchers and first responders that run toward terror when most of us run away, to the countless people who have emailed us to tell their stories of battling violence, fear, and unpredictable circumstances. Every day I am reminded of the extraordinary potential of humans to overcome.
We built RapidSOS to provide universal safety and security — a platform to predict and preempt certain types of emergencies before they occur, the ability to warn those in harm’s way, and ensure that first responders are one touch away no matter where you travel globally. We are just one small group of computer engineers — but we are committed to leveraging every ounce of technology for when we need it most.
Please join us in our Safer Together Movement where we are bringing together thought leaders, technology innovators, major non-profits, and celebrities to drive this mission. If you would like to access our technology but can’t afford it, please fill out this form to get free access. We are committed to fighting terror with technology, community, and shared humanity.
RapidSOS was formed in 2012 by a team of M.I.T., Harvard, and Stanford grad students who had personal experiences with the challenges of the existing emergency communication infrastructure. Working closely with the 9-1-1 community, tech and telecom companies, and leading investors, RapidSOS is developing technology to predict and preempt emergencies before they occur, dynamically warn people in harm’s way, and ensure that first responders are one touch away globally.
