Your phone, or a free Emergency Health Profile, can put your critical medical information in front of 911 the moment you call.
When you call 911, the person who answers has seconds to understand what is happening and send the right help. If you are having trouble breathing, are disoriented, or can’t speak, the details that matter most (your allergies, medications, or a heart condition) may never make it into the call.
That information exists. It just isn’t connected to the people who need it. You can change that in a few minutes, by setting up the phone you already have or by completing a free Emergency Health Profile. Either way, you make sure the 911 professionals and field responders who help you have the context they need to care for you.
Every second matters. With cardiac arrest, the chance of survival drops 7 to 10% for every minute without intervention. When your health information reaches 911 before you say a word, 911 professionals can send the right resources the first time, brief paramedics on your conditions, medications, and allergies while they’re on the way, and help you even if you can’t communicate clearly.
Start with the phone you already have
Most smartphones have a built-in way to share your health information with 911. If you turn it on, your details can reach the 911 center, or Emergency Communications Center (ECC), handling your call through the RapidSOS Safety Network. Steps vary slightly by phone model and software version.
On an iPhone
- Open the Health app and tap your profile picture in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Medical ID, then Get Started (or Edit if you already have one).
- Add your medical conditions, allergies, medications, blood type, and any other important notes.
- Add your Emergency Contacts.
- Under Emergency Access, turn on Show When Locked and Share During Emergency Call.
- Tap Done.
On an Android phone
- Open Settings and find Safety & emergency (use the search bar if you don’t see it).
- Tap Medical info and add your blood type, allergies, medications, and medical conditions.
- Go back and tap Emergency contacts to add the people who should be notified.
- Turn on Show on Lock screen.
- Turn on Share during emergency call or a similar setting. On many phones, this is part of the Personal Safety app.
Or complete a free Emergency Health Profile
At emergencyprofile.org, you can create a free, opt-in Emergency Health Profile. It works with any mobile phone, and it’s a good backup even if you’ve set up your phone’s built-in feature. Your profile links critical medical information to your mobile number. When you call 911 from that number, your information can appear on the screen of the 911 professional handling your call.
- Create your profile. Sign up and add the health information you want responders to know.
- Verify your number. Confirm your mobile number by text message.
- Call 911 as you normally would. If your local ECC is connected to the RapidSOS Safety Network and has this data enabled, your profile is delivered to them during the call.
Your information is used only during an active 911 call from your registered number. 911 professionals can use it to decide what personnel and equipment to send, and to prepare field responders for your specific needs before they arrive.
Keep your profile current. Update it after any major change to your health, and review it about every six months.

Does this cost money? No. The Emergency Health Profile is free.
Who maintains my profile? Profiles are maintained by the Emergency Health Profile Association, a Delaware LLC created by RapidSOS, Inc. as a separate legal entity to house and maintain Emergency Health Profiles at no cost.
How is my information protected? The information you provide is collected and maintained by the Emergency Health Profile Association. It is used only to share with emergency personnel when you call 911 from the number you registered. RapidSOS does not use your personal information for any other purpose. Learn more in the privacy policy.
Who can see my information? Only public safety personnel handling your emergency, through the RapidSOS Safety Network, during an active 911 call from your registered number.
Does this work everywhere? Your profile is shared automatically with the ECC handling your call if that center uses RapidSOS and has enabled this information. It can take a few weeks after you create your profile for it to become available to agencies. RapidSOS is trusted by 23,500+ federal, state and local agencies, but there are circumstances where your profile may not be transmitted. To find out whether your local 911 center receives this information, call its non-emergency line.
Is this available outside the United States? The Emergency Health Profile at emergencyprofile.org is currently available only in the United States. RapidSOS supports emergency response in 16 countries, and built-in phone features like iPhone Medical ID can share information with emergency services in some regions outside the US. Availability varies by country, so check with your local emergency services.
How long is my information kept? Your information is securely retained until you ask for it to be deleted. If the Emergency Health Profile database is ever shut down, your information will be deleted and you will be notified by email.
Who can create a profile? Anyone 16 or older can sign up. A parent or guardian can create a profile for someone younger.
